Mt. Gox Gets One More Year to Finish Paying Creditors
The wreckage of Mt. Gox will take at least another year to clear. A Tokyo court has agreed to move the cutoff for base, early lump-sum and intermediate repayments from the end of October 2026 to the end of October 2027. Trustee Nobuaki Kobayashi announced the decision on Friday. Counting two short postponements in early 2023, this is the sixth time the date has slipped.

Why Payouts Are Still Incomplete
Kobayashi said creditors who finished all the paperwork without trouble have mostly been paid, with a few payment categories still open. The holdup lies with everyone else. Many claimants never completed the required steps, and some who did ran into technical problems while their payments were processed.

Where the Repayment Effort Stands
Distributions in Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash started in July 2024. By March 2025, more than 19,500 creditors had received funds. The new notice gives no count of people still waiting and no figure for how much Bitcoin is left to hand out.
Blockchain analytics from Arkham Intelligence show wallets tied to the defunct exchange holding roughly 34,400 BTC as of Tuesday, worth around $2.8 billion.
