United Kingdom politician Nigel Farage is facing growing scrutiny after reports revealed he purchased a property worth 1.4 million British pounds ($1.8 million) shortly after receiving a 5 million pound ($6.7 million) personal gift from crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne.
The property purchase reportedly closed in May 2024, only weeks before Farage announced his candidacy in the UK general election. The timing has triggered a parliamentary review, with critics arguing the financial support should have been declared after Farage entered office.

Nigel Farage Defends Crypto Gift Disclosure
Farage and the Reform Party deny any wrongdoing. According to Farage, the money was received before he officially took office, meaning it was not subject to parliamentary disclosure rules that apply to elected officials.
The controversy arrives as UK lawmakers intensify pressure on political figures receiving crypto-related donations or financial backing.

UK Lawmakers Push for Restrictions on Crypto Donations
In 2025, several UK officials raised concerns about digital asset donations influencing politics. Matt Western, chair of the Joint Committee on the National Security Strategy, warned that foreign-linked crypto contributions could pose risks to national interests and democratic systems.
The UK government later proposed temporary restrictions on crypto political donations. Prime Minister Keir Starmer backed the effort, saying stronger safeguards are needed to protect democratic institutions. The proposed rules still require approval from Parliament and King Charles III before becoming law.
