NYSE Brings Four More Transfer Agents Into Its Planned Tokenized Stock Platform

The New York Stock Exchange said on Monday that Broadridge, Computershare, Equiniti and the tokenization firm Superstate have signed on to its planned blockchain-based market. They join earlier partners Securitize and tZERO. The first three together serve nearly 5,000 listed companies, including almost 99% of the S&P 500. The exchange wants to offer round the clock trading, instant settlement and stablecoin funding, but that only works if companies can still track owners, pay dividends and run votes.

Shareholder Records and Onchain Voting

Transfer agents keep the ownership books, and their job gets harder once shares move between blockchain wallets and ordinary brokerage accounts. Broadridge will also handle onchain voting and governance, tying tokenized shares to proxy materials, voting rules and verified ownership. Investors will be able to cast votes through supported digital wallets, brokerage platforms or the existing ProxyVote system.

Nasdaq, DTCC and SEC Tokenization Race

Nasdaq is building its own tokenized securities setup, including a partnership with Kraken’s parent company to distribute blockchain-based shares worldwide. Last week the DTCC launched a platform that lets eligible firms convert stocks, ETFs and Treasuries into tokens on Canton Network and its private Besu chain while keeping shareholder rights, with a focus on custody and transfers rather than trading.

SEC Innovation Exemption and the OKX and ICE Venue

The SEC’s innovation exemption opens another route for select blockchain venues to trade tokenized stocks through automated market makers, with issuers able to opt out. One such project, from OKX and Intercontinental Exchange, the NYSE’s parent, is separate from the NYSE platform.
