OpenAI’s New Funding Round Details
Citing people familiar with the matter, a Tuesday report said OpenAI is in early discussions for the round, driven by strong investor demand. The proposed valuation would mark a roughly 64% jump from the $852 billion valuation OpenAI reached in March, when it raised $122 billion.
OpenAI Pushes IPO Timeline to 2027
The fundraising talks come as OpenAI delays its long-planned public debut to 2027 at the earliest. CEO Sam Altman said earlier this month that going public in 2026 would be “ill-advised” while the company focuses on AI safety. OpenAI confidentially filed IPO paperwork with the SEC in June. Altman also addressed AI safety concerns before the United Nations Security Council earlier this month, discussing risks tied to increasingly powerful AI systems.
Anthropic Moves Ahead With Its Own IPO Plans
While OpenAI delays, rival Anthropic, the company behind Claude, is proceeding with plans to go public this year in an offering that could value it at more than $2 trillion.
