Health tracking company Oura has publicly filed paperwork for its initial public offering, while Nvidia’s chief executive pushed back against warnings about the dangers of advanced artificial intelligence.
Oura’s IPO Details
The maker of the popular sleep and health tracking ring is aiming to raise more than $2 billion by selling shares priced in the low $40 range. The company’s revenue nearly doubled over the past nine months compared to the same period last year, driven by a sharp increase in ring sales. Despite the strong revenue growth, the company reported a significant net loss during the same period, reflecting the high costs typically associated with scaling a hardware and subscription based business.
Nvidia CEO Responds to AI Safety Warnings
Separately, Nvidia’s chief executive addressed growing concerns over the risks posed by advanced AI systems, rejecting the idea that artificial intelligence poses an existential threat to humanity as unsupported by current evidence. His comments came shortly after a prominent AI company executive published an essay calling for slower development of next-generation AI systems. While dismissing the most extreme fears, the Nvidia chief acknowledged that concerns from researchers about building safe AI systems are legitimate and worth taking seriously.
