The Pentagon has released more than 160 previously classified files related to unidentified flying objects (UFOs), offering the public a closer look at decades of reported sightings and military investigations. The move follows growing pressure for transparency surrounding mysterious aerial incidents reported over the years.
Pentagon Declassifies UFO and UAP Documents
The newly released documents include reports dating back to the 1940s and cover incidents involving what the US government officially calls Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAPs). Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the records had remained hidden for years and that public access was necessary to address long-standing speculation.
Among the files is a December 1947 report discussing alleged “flying discs,” while another top-secret Air Force intelligence document from 1948 details sightings of “unidentified aircraft” and “flying saucers.”

Recent UAP Sightings Included in Pentagon Files
One document highlights a 2023 incident in which three separate federal law enforcement teams reported seeing orange glowing orbs in the sky releasing smaller red objects.
The release comes after President Donald Trump ordered federal agencies earlier this year to begin identifying and publishing UFO-related government records due to strong public interest.
Pentagon Says No Proof of Alien Technology
Despite renewed fascination with UFOs, the Pentagon has repeatedly said there is no evidence linking UAP sightings to extraterrestrial life. A 2024 report concluded that many unusual sightings were later identified as weather balloons, satellites, surveillance aircraft, or other explainable activity.
