Prediction Market Giants Kalshi and Polymarket See First Monthly Volume Drop in a Year
Leading prediction market platforms Kalshi and Polymarket recorded a notable decline in combined trading volume last month, marking their first month-over-month drop in a year. Leading prediction market platforms Kalshi and Polymarket recorded a notable decline in combined trading volume last month, marking their first month-over-month drop in a year. The pullback follows a summer surge in activity fueled by heightened interest during the World Cup season, which had pushed volumes to unusually high levels in prior months.
Kalshi Outpaces Polymarket Despite Decline
While both platforms saw reduced activity, Kalshi maintained a significantly larger share of overall volume compared to Polymarket and its US based counterpart, which experienced a steeper monthly decline. Despite the drop, overall trading levels remained well above figures recorded earlier in the year.

Regulatory Pressure Continues to Mount
The volume decline comes as both platforms face growing scrutiny from state regulators across the country, particularly regarding sports-related prediction contracts. Several states have pursued legal action against the companies in recent months. Even amid these challenges, one platform continues expanding its presence in sports through new partnerships, while also taking disciplinary action against users violating platform trading rules, including issuing its first permanent trading ban.
