Ripple Brings Stripe Owned Privy Wallets to XRP Ledger as AI Agent Payments Top 14 Million

Ripple is bringing wallet technology from Privy, a company owned by Stripe, to the XRP Ledger. Developers will be able to build wallets directly into their products so apps and AI agents can open accounts, hold crypto and send payments without users handling their own wallet software. Transfers can involve XRP, Ripple's dollar pegged RLUSD stablecoin and other assets issued on the network.

Ripple is bringing wallet technology from Privy, a company owned by Stripe, to the XRP Ledger. Developers will be able to build wallets directly into their products so apps and AI agents can open accounts, hold crypto and send payments without users handling their own wallet software. Transfers can involve XRP, Ripple’s dollar pegged RLUSD stablecoin and other assets issued on the network.

A payments company could offer dollar-linked transfers without asking customers to manage the secret keys that approve spending. Privy runs the wallet infrastructure and still lets users export keys or a recovery phrase to move their wallets elsewhere. Both companies say they will deepen the integration over time, adding policy controls and tools to cover users’ network fees.

How AI Agents Pay Through x402

Companies could hand AI agents, the bots that complete tasks for users, a set of funded wallets to pay for online services. Privy’s documents say server-operated wallets let software hold and spend funds, including through x402, a standard for buying access to data. An agent asking for paid data gets a payment request, approves it and receives the data once payment is verified, with no person needed at a checkout page. Ripple began offering these tools in June and in September added support for a standard built by Stripe and the Tempo blockchain.

RippleX engineering head J. Ayo Akinyele said the network has handled over 13 million agent payments through x402, roughly 25% of ledger activity. The XRPL AI Hub shows more than 14.3 million transactions across 169 merchants, yet only about 6,991 XRP and 12,752 RLUSD in total value, which points to tiny payments for single requests. New accounts also need a minimum reserve of 1 XRP before they can transact, even for stablecoin-only users.
