Ripple Launches New Tools to Boost RLUSD Institutional Adoption

Ripple has introduced Ripple Mint, a platform allowing institutional customers to create, redeem, bridge and track RLUSD through a web dashboard or direct system integration. The launch addresses a longstanding bottleneck, as minting RLUSD previously required firms to coordinate directly with Ripple through a manual issuance process. The new APIs let companies trigger minting and redemption automatically while tracking transactions from dollar transfer through to onchain settlement.

Ripple has also expanded RLUSD’s reach beyond the XRP Ledger and Ethereum, extending the token onto the XRPL EVM sidechain, Base, Optimism, Ink and Unichain.

Notabene Partnership Targets Institutional Payment Rails

In a separate announcement made late Thursday, Ripple revealed a strategic investment in compliance network Notabene, positioning RLUSD within its business-payments platform to reach institutions equipped to send and receive the token.

Holder Growth Outpaces Transaction Volume

RLUSD currently holds a market value of roughly $1.5 billion, with supply split nearly evenly between the XRP Ledger and Ethereum. While holder count and active addresses have surged over the past month, up 6% and 70% respectively, monthly transfer volume dropped about 25%, falling from $14.6 billion to $11 billion.

What This Means for RLUSD’s Future

The trend suggests more wallets are holding RLUSD without actively transacting with it, a pattern industry watchers say highlights the gap between issuing a stablecoin and building genuine usage. Ripple’s latest moves signal an effort to close that gap by turning RLUSD into infrastructure institutions actively rely on rather than simply hold.
