Ripple Wins MiCA Crypto License in Luxembourg, Opening Door to 30 European Markets

Ripple has received preliminary Crypto Asset Service Provider authorization from Luxembourg’s financial regulator, the CSSF, under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto Assets framework. The approval allows the company to offer crypto services across all 30 countries in the European Economic Area, arriving just before MiCA’s transitional period closes on July 1, 2026.

Combined Licenses Create Full Payment Infrastructure

The CASP authorization, still pending final conditions and described as a “Green Light Letter,” builds on an Electronic Money Institution license Ripple secured in Luxembourg in February 2026. Together, the two licenses cover both stablecoin issuance and broader cryptoasset services, giving banks, fintechs and corporate clients a single point of entry into crypto payments.

Under MiCA’s passporting system, a license granted in one EEA country lets a firm operate throughout the entire bloc without seeking separate approval in each market.

Part of a Broader Licensing Strategy

Ripple now holds more than 75 regulatory licenses worldwide, and its payments arm has processed over $100 billion in volume across more than 60 markets. Company executives, including Managing Director for the UK and Europe Cassie Craddock, pointed to rising institutional demand as a driving factor behind the push for licensing, while UK and Europe policy lead Matthew Osborne credited Luxembourg’s regulatory framework as a key enabler.

Still Subject to Final Approval

Industry observers note that preliminary authorizations are not the same as final, unconditional licenses. Additional requirements or delays remain possible before the approval is finalized. Even so, holding both an EMI and CASP license in the same jurisdiction, combined with EEA-wide passporting rights, puts Ripple ahead of many competitors still working through MiCA compliance.
