The retrial of Tornado Cash co-founder Roman Storm has been pushed back from October 2026 to April 2027, as US District Judge Katherine Polk Failla continues weighing his motion for acquittal. The judge cited the pending motion and Storm’s related request for additional time as reasons for the delay.
Defense Requested More Preparation Time
Storm’s legal team asked for the postponement earlier this month, arguing they would need at least 90 days after a ruling on the acquittal motion to properly prepare for another trial. Prosecutors opposed the delay, but the court ultimately granted the adjournment.

Case Stems From Mixed Jury Verdict
The retrial concerns two remaining charges, conspiracy to commit money laundering and conspiracy to violate US sanctions, after jurors failed to reach a unanimous decision on either count during the original trial. Storm was previously convicted in August 2025 on a separate charge of operating an unlicensed money-transmitting business, which carries a potential five-year prison sentence. He has since sought acquittal on all charges, arguing prosecutors failed to prove intent.
