Russia launched a large missile and drone assault on Kyiv early Sunday, killing at least four people and injuring dozens across the Ukrainian capital and nearby areas. Ukrainian officials said explosions shook the city shortly after 1 a.m. as air raid warnings spread across the region.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed two deaths in the city and said 56 people were injured, with around 30 taken to hospitals. More than 40 locations across Kyiv suffered damage, including residential buildings, shops, warehouses and a metro station entrance.
Oreshnik Missile Threat Raises Fears in Ukraine
Before the attack, Ukraine’s air force warned of a possible launch of Russia’s Oreshnik hypersonic ballistic missile. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy had earlier said intelligence from Ukraine, the United States and European allies pointed to a possible strike.
Poland Activates Military Aircraft
The attacks also prompted neighboring Poland to activate military aviation, though officials reported no breach of Polish airspace.
