At least 16 people were killed and more than 130 wounded on Friday when Russian drones struck a shopping centre in Kryvyi Rih, the hometown of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. Regional governor Oleksandr Hanzha said 22 children were among the wounded in the daytime attack, with 29 people, including five children, in serious condition.
Second Strike Targeted Emergency Responders
Zelenskiy said a second drone hit the same building roughly 30 minutes after the first, calling it a deliberate attempt to strike emergency crews responding to the scene. He described the attack as “absolutely cynical and despicable” and labeled it an act of terrorism, vowing a response. By Saturday, nine people, including two children, were reported missing as rescue teams continued clearing rubble.
Separate Attack Kills Four in Mykolaiv
In a separate strike the same day, at least four people, including three children, were killed in Ukraine’s southern Mykolaiv region. The attacks come amid an escalating Russian air campaign, following Thursday’s missile strike on Kyiv that killed 17 people. Ukraine has continued targeting Russian oil and logistics infrastructure in response.
