Senate Approves Temporary Funding Bill Ahead of October Deadline, Leaves Out Several White House Demands
The US Senate has cleared a short term government funding measure by a wide 90-6 margin, aiming to keep federal agencies running from October 1 through December 11. The move comes just weeks ahead of the November midterm elections and steers clear of a shutdown that could have disrupted federal operations nationwide.

The US Senate has cleared a short term government funding measure by a wide 90-6 margin, aiming to keep federal agencies running from October 1 through December 11. The move comes just weeks ahead of the November midterm elections and steers clear of a shutdown that could have disrupted federal operations nationwide.
Key Provisions and What Got Left Out
The approved bill leaves out emergency funding tied to the Iran conflict and a contested voter ID measure that the White House had pushed for. Senators also removed a proposed one-month delay on new hemp regulations after pushback from conservative members. Instead, the legislation blocks a White House rule that critics say could steer grant money toward politically favorable states, while closing a funding loophole related to border patrol resources. It does, however, include White House backed provisions allowing several military hardware projects to continue during the funding period.
The measure now moves to the House, where members are expected to review it once they return from recess in late August.
