Senate Democrats Push for Hearings on Trump’s Crypto Ties Amid CLARITY Act Debate

Five Democratic senators are calling for committee hearings to look into national security concerns tied to President Donald Trump's crypto holdings, right as the Senate weighs major digital asset legislation. The push follows Trump's 2025 financial disclosure showing he earned roughly $1.4 billion connected to crypto ventures, including his memecoin and the family-linked World Liberty Financial platform.

CLARITY Act Vote Looms

The concerns come as the Senate prepares to vote this month on the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, known as CLARITY. Because Democrats are in the minority in both chambers, they can’t call hearings without Republican cooperation, but passing CLARITY requires 60 votes, meaning Republicans need Democratic support to get it through. Some Republicans, including Senator Cynthia Lummis, continue pushing for the bill, while many Democrats say they won’t back it without stronger ethics provisions.

Separately, a bill blocking the Federal Reserve from creating a central bank digital currency until the end of 2030 is expected to become law after Trump declined to sign or veto it.
