Senior FBI Intelligence Agent Charged With Stealing $1 Million in Crypto

A supervisory FBI agent working in counterintelligence at the bureau’s Washington headquarters has been arrested and charged with stealing more than $1 million in cryptocurrency. According to a federal court filing, the agent reportedly told colleagues he pulled crypto keys from FBI systems and made roughly a dozen transfers to himself from wallets belonging to foreign individuals under agency investigation.

Background and Clearance Level

The agent held top-secret clearance and had spent years working counterintelligence cases tied to an unnamed adversary nation, previously operating out of Boston before moving to headquarters. He was suspended briefly before being terminated and arrested in late July.

Kraken and DeFi Accounts Used to Move Funds

Investigators say the stolen assets were routed through Kraken and a Sui-based DeFi platform via a digital wallet. A search of his devices reportedly turned up AI chatbot queries about relocating to an EU country with roughly $1 million, along with undisclosed travel to Portugal, Germany and Grenada. He is currently in detention in Virginia.
