ShinyHunters Suspect Detained in Jordan and Reportedly Helping the FBI Track Fellow Hackers

A suspected member of the ShinyHunters hacking group, which claims to have stolen data on every FBI employee, was detained in Jordan this week, according to three people familiar with the matter. The man, Saif al-Din Khader, who allegedly goes by the nickname Rey, was reportedly taken into custody on Tuesday. Two sources say he is cooperating with the FBI and walking investigators through his devices and messages to help locate other members. The FBI declined to comment on specific arrests but said it has already worked with partners to arrest multiple subjects.

What the Stolen FBI Data Contains

A review of a sample of the leaked material found extensive personal details of FBI staff, sensitive job-role information, and medical and psychiatric records. Experts compare the breach to the 2015 intrusion at the US Office of Personnel Management.

Group Shows Signs of Disruption

ShinyHunters stopped responding to journalists on Tuesday, and its dark web site vanished on Wednesday. Another alleged member, Pepijn van der Stap, was detained in the Netherlands, and FBI Director Kash Patel said more arrests are possible. The group’s latest message said it wants no further escalation. Khader was linked to the wider hacker network by a security journalist last year, yet the group kept hacking into 2026, including Rockstar Games and Canvas.
