Solflare Promises to Repay Missed Staking Rewards After Validator Outage

Solflare, a wallet app for the Solana network, says it will make up the staking rewards its users lost after its validator stopped earning. The wallet explained that the outside company it pays to run the validator reported a security incident affecting the keys it holds. Solflare has not named that company. About 1.56 million SOL, worth roughly $160 million, was still delegated to the validator on Wednesday afternoon, according to Stakewiz data. Users also learned that the validator carrying Solflare's branding had been operated by a third party all along.

Are Staked SOL Funds Safe?

Solflare says the coins remain safe because staked SOL sits in each user’s own stake account, controlled only by their keys, and no user funds were touched. Anyone holding a validator’s keys can stop it from earning but cannot withdraw anyone’s stake. For now, though, affected users are not collecting rewards.

How to Move Stake to the New Validator

A replacement validator went live on Wednesday, and Solflare will cover missed rewards for everyone who switches. Users can choose regular unstaking from “Solflare (Legacy)” and then stake with the new validator, or wait for an app update that guides them through the process. Changes only take effect at the end of each epoch, which lasts about two days on Solana, so the old stake must wind down first.

Scam Warning During the Migration

Mass migrations tend to attract scammers. Solflare says the move will happen only inside its app, and it will never message users directly or send them a link about it.
