Regulatory Framework Set to Take Effect Next Year

The move comes ahead of South Korea’s upcoming amendments, scheduled to take effect on February 4, 2027, which will formally recognize distributed ledgers as valid securities registers and integrate security tokens into the country’s existing capital markets framework.

The Financial Services Commission, the nation’s top financial regulator, has outlined a three stage rollout plan. Under the new rules, the commission will initially permit tokenization of privately placed money market funds, bonds, unlisted stocks through trust structures, and fractional investment securities, with plans to later expand to publicly offered securities and eventually enable settlement of tokenized assets using stablecoins.

Hanwha Deepens Blockchain Involvement

The brokerage’s move aligns with broader efforts by Hanwha Group to expand its presence in digital asset infrastructure. The group has built a 9.6% ownership stake in tokenization firm Securitize across several affiliated entities, making it the company’s largest shareholder. Separately, Hanwha’s investment and securities division committed roughly $22.3 million toward Canton Network operator Digital Asset earlier this year.
