Stand With Crypto Backs Husted, Hinson and Pappas in Senate Races as Midterms Near

Stand With Crypto, the group Coinbase launched in 2023 to push for clear, common-sense crypto rules, has named its picks for the next Congress. For the Senate, it backs Republicans Jon Husted in Ohio and Ashley Hinson in Iowa, and Democrat Chris Pappas in New Hampshire. In the House, it endorsed Republican Mariannette Miller-Meeks in Iowa and Democrat Shomari Figures in Alabama. The group had already endorsed 32 House candidates in August. Many polls show Democrats favored to retake both chambers in 2027.

Crypto Money and the Ohio Senate Race

Husted is defending his seat against Democrat Sherrod Brown, who lost to Republican Bernie Moreno in 2024 after outside groups spent over $300 million. The Fairshake PAC, backed mostly by Coinbase, Ripple Labs and Andreessen Horowitz, pledged an initial $30 million for Husted and has spent $82 million on candidates nationwide as of June.

What the Group Says

Executive Director Mason Lynaugh said there is no evidence the industry can buy assurances of who wins. He called Husted a proven pro-crypto lawmaker because of his CLARITY Act vote, and said Brown’s track record, not his recent remarks, drives the group’s decision.

Why the CLARITY Act Vote Matters

The crypto market structure bill failed a cloture vote in the Republican controlled Senate on Sept. 15 after passing the House in 2025. The group warned of “consequences” for lawmakers who did not back it. A change in control could shift how Congress handles the bill.
