Starknet Quantum Resistant Layer 1 Vote

A seven day, non binding poll opened Thursday for STRK holders, with three choices: back more research, oppose it, or stay neutral until more details emerge. Voting ends Oct. 22 and results will follow. A yes vote would only show support for studying the idea, not approve any switch. Extra proposals and votes would be needed, and no timeline has been set.

Why StarkWare Wants Independence From Ethereum

StarkWare says going independent could let the network build quantum proof security without waiting on Ethereum’s upgrade calendar. Starknet still depends on Ethereum for its bridge and data availability, which StarkWare lists as the remaining quantum weak points. CEO Eli Ben Sasson said protecting crypto from quantum attacks is urgent and demands lightning speed, comparing that pace with slower progress at Ethereum and Bitcoin.

Quantum Security Roadmap and Ethereum’s Plans

Ben-Sasson and Starknet hinted at the idea in X posts on Oct. 8, describing a goal of becoming the first fully quantum resistant network by 2027. In June, StarkWare shared a three phase roadmap covering signature upgrades, smart contract migration and infrastructure tied to Ethereum. Meanwhile, Ethereum developers formed a dedicated post quantum team in March, aiming for first protocol level protections by 2029.
