Strategy Sells $334 Million in MSTR Shares, Bitcoin Holdings Unchanged as Cash Reserve Grows
Bitcoin treasury company Strategy offloaded approximately $333.7 million worth of its own MSTR shares last week but made no bitcoin purchases or sales during the same period, according to a regulatory filing submitted Monday. The firm sold 3,358,866 shares between August 10 and August 16.

Bitcoin treasury company Strategy offloaded approximately $333.7 million worth of its own MSTR shares last week but made no bitcoin purchases or sales during the same period, according to a regulatory filing submitted Monday. The firm sold 3,358,866 shares between August 10 and August 16.

Where the Money Went
Proceeds from the share sale were split three ways: $52.4 million went toward dividends on Strategy’s STRC preferred stock, $132.2 million funded repurchases under its Digital Credit Securities Repurchase Program, and $149.1 million was added to the company’s USD reserve, bringing that balance up to $4.8 billion.

Bitcoin Holdings Remain Steady
Strategy’s bitcoin stash stayed unchanged at 840,447 BTC, valued at roughly $53.4 billion, purchased at an average price of $75,385 per coin for a total outlay near $63.4 billion including fees. That amount represents about 4% of bitcoin’s total 21 million supply cap, though the position currently carries close to $10 billion in unrealized losses at today’s prices.

Bitcoin traded largely flat following the announcement, up about 1% over 24 hours near $63,539, while MSTR shares gained 1.3% in pre-market trading.
Notable Shift in Communication
Company co-founder and Executive Chairman Michael Saylor skipped his usual weekend social media update tracking bitcoin purchases, a departure from his past pattern of signaling upcoming acquisitions. His posts have grown less predictable in recent weeks as the firm’s approach has shifted between trimming and holding its position steady.
Broader Treasury Company Landscape
Roughly 196 public companies now hold bitcoin as part of a treasury strategy. Behind Strategy, the largest holders include firms backed by Tether, along with other major mining and investment companies holding between roughly 30,000 and 43,500 BTC each.
Strategy’s stock declined 4.1% last week, while bitcoin slipped 3% over the same stretch.
