Sui Foundation is investing $30 million in DATA Network under a strategic partnership that brings the AI training data protocol into the Sui ecosystem and connects it with onchain storage platform Walrus.
The foundation will become the network’s largest institutional holder, joining existing stakeholders PIP Labs and DATA Foundation.
DATA Token Moves to Sui on One to One Basis
Under the deal, DATA Network will run natively on Sui and its independent chain will be retired. The DATA token will migrate on a one to one basis, and the current network will keep operating until the transition is finished. A detailed timeline will be released before the upgrade.
Walrus will serve as the default storage layer for DATA Foundation applications, which shifted focus from intellectual property infrastructure to AI training data in June.
Trace Registry Records 250 Million Contributions
The partnership aims to expand the supply chain for AI training data. Trace, launched in June, tracks the origins and usage rights of training data and handles payments to contributors. The registry has recorded more than 250 million contributions and processes over 3 million receipts per day on average.
Adeniyi Abiodun, co-founder of Mysten Labs, said the migration brings large volumes of rights cleared data already serving frontier AI labs.
