Sui Tunnels Reach 40.6 Million TPS in Live Stress Test Built for AI Agents

Sui says its programmable offchain tunnels handled 40,614,180 transactions per second during a live stress test on Wednesday at Sui Basecamp in Singapore. The result beats the previous record of about 6.1 million TPS from a similar test in July. The exercise was designed to mimic the fast, constant activity expected between AI agents.

How Sui Offchain Tunnels Work

The transactions ran offchain through Sui tunnels, which are programmable channels that settle to the blockchain once they close. More than 10,000 tunnels were opened on Sui mainnet during the test, covering payments, games and chat applications. Sui says the design lets high-frequency traffic, including agent-to-agent interactions, flow without every transaction being processed directly onchain.

Mysten Labs on AI Agent Transactions

Adeniyi Abiodun, co-founder and chief product officer at Mysten Labs, the original contributor to Sui, said the network is built for a time when millions of AI agents transact daily. He argued that no human market needs 6 million transactions per second, let alone 40 million, because people simply do not move that fast, while agents do.
