Details of the Funding Round

The investment came as part of a $197 million equity round Ualá announced back in March, led by Allianz X. Ualá had confirmed Tether’s participation in the round at the time but had not disclosed how much the stablecoin issuer put in. The exact figure only became clear now through separate reporting. Tether has not responded to requests for confirmation on the deal.

Part of a Bigger Regional Strategy

This isn’t Tether’s first move in the region this year. Earlier in July, the company put another $20 million into Mercado Bitcoin, a Brazilian crypto exchange, to help expand onchain financial infrastructure across Latin America. Before that, in April, Tether led a $14 million Series A round for Belo, an Argentine crypto platform, alongside investors including Titan Fund, The Venture City, Mindset Ventures, and G2.

Tether’s Growing Footprint

These investments reflect Tether’s steady expansion into Latin American fintech and crypto infrastructure, building relationships with both traditional neobanks and crypto-native platforms in the region. Tether is the issuer of USDT, the largest stablecoin in the world, which currently holds a market capitalization of $184.4 billion.

The company has increasingly positioned itself as a financial backer for emerging market fintech, particularly in regions where crypto adoption and digital banking are growing side by side.
