Thailand’s SEC Reports Asset Manager Interest in Spot Crypto ETFs but No Applications Yet

Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission says several asset managers have asked for consultations on launching spot crypto ETFs, but none has filed a formal application. The regulator shared the update in a Thursday statement and did not name the companies involved. It also said it is too early to tell whether the first products could be approved before the end of 2026, since timing depends on how ready applicants are, regulatory reviews and investor protection requirements. The new framework took effect last Friday and allows asset managers to set up locally listed spot Bitcoin and Ether ETFs.

Existing Bitcoin Funds Available to Thai Investors

Thai investors can already get Bitcoin exposure through funds that track overseas ETFs. ONE Asset Management became the first Thai manager to win approval for a Bitcoin ETF linked fund in 2024. MFC Asset Management later launched a fund that invests through BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust, known as IBIT.

What the New Thai Crypto ETF Framework Means

The rules open the door to funds listed directly in Thailand rather than only products linked to foreign ETFs. For now the market is waiting to see which firms file first and how quickly the regulator moves.
