Trezor Warns Wallet Owners After Report of Hidden Implant in Safe 5 Device

Trezor has told anyone who bought a hardware wallet from its former authorized reseller CryptoBilis since March to move their funds. The alert follows a report from a customer in Indonesia who found an unauthorized circuit board inside a Trezor Safe 5 purchased on Tokopedia in August. According to that report, the implant could capture whatever appears on the screen, including recovery phrases, and send it out over a cellular network. Trezor has not yet examined the device and has received no reports of related losses.

According to that report, the implant could capture whatever appears on the screen, including recovery phrases, and send it out over a cellular network. Why Trezor Is Treating the Report as Credible

Chief commercial officer Danny Sanders said the company would rather warn people now than wait for proof and risk someone losing their funds. A spokesperson described sales through the reseller as very small but gave no figures. Trezor has not worked out where the tampering happened and is reviewing its hardware protections, admitting that seals and packaging alone are not enough.

Ledger Implant Case and Earlier Warnings

The notice comes after losses tied to Ledger wallets sold through CryptoBilis, first reported on Oct. 9, where Ledger confirmed an unauthorized implant in one affected device. Security researcher Joe Grand said he alerted Trezor in August about tampered Trezor One and Model T wallets sold by unauthorized sellers on TikTok and Facebook. Trezor says its earlier claim of no compromised devices covered only new wallets from authorized resellers.
