Tron Founder Justin Sun Says Post Quantum Cryptography Is Live on Testnet

Justin Sun, founder of the Tron network, announced Saturday that Tron's post quantum cryptography is now running on testnet. In a post on X, he said the team is watching developments in quantum computing and AI closely and can bring quantum resistance to mainnet at any time. Sun added that Tron aims to be one of the few major blockchains protected against quantum attacks before Q-Day, the point when quantum machines become powerful enough to break today's security standards.

Justin Sun, founder of the Tron network, announced Saturday that Tron’s post quantum cryptography is now running on testnet. In a post on X, he said the team is watching developments in quantum computing and AI closely and can bring quantum resistance to mainnet at any time. Sun added that Tron aims to be one of the few major blockchains protected against quantum attacks before Q-Day, the point when quantum machines become powerful enough to break today’s security standards.

Developers are paying more attention to post quantum cryptography because strong enough quantum computers could eventually crack the elliptic curve cryptography that secures Bitcoin, Ethereum and many other networks.

Other Quantum-Safe Crypto Efforts

Tron is not the only project working on this. On July 28, security firm AmericanFortress presented a plan to shield wallets from future quantum attacks without forcing users to move funds, rotate keys or change addresses. It published the idea in a technical paper that has not yet been peer reviewed.

Bitcoin, Ethereum and Algorand Quantum Plans

Earlier this year, a Strategy led consortium pledged $15 million toward Bitcoin quantum security research. The Ethereum Foundation proposed a path for moving accounts to quantum-resistant cryptography, and Algorand plans to roll out quantum-resistant accounts by 2027.
