U.S. Representative Mike Collins has won the Georgia Republican Senate primary runoff, becoming the party’s official nominee for the November election against Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff. Collins received strong backing from former President Donald Trump, who publicly praised him as a “warrior and winner” and highlighted his early support for Trump’s political agenda.

Collins defeated political outsider Derek Dooley, while Georgia Governor Brian Kemp had supported Dooley in the contest. The race highlights ongoing divisions within the Republican Party over preferred candidates in key battleground states.

Ossoff Enters Race With Strong Fundraising Advantage

Senator Jon Ossoff enters the general election as a major fundraising force, having raised around $60 million and holding nearly $33 million in cash reserves as of May. In contrast, Collins reported significantly lower fundraising totals, with about $4.9 million raised and $1.2 million on hand.

Despite this gap, Republicans are expected to invest heavily in the race, with the Senate Leadership Fund pledging tens of millions of dollars to support Collins. Democratic groups have also reserved major advertising spending to defend Ossoff’s seat.

Georgia Senate Race Seen as Key 2026 Battleground

Political analysts view Georgia as one of the most competitive Senate races in the upcoming midterm elections. While Republicans aim to expand their Senate majority, Ossoff is considered a strong incumbent due to his statewide presence and campaign strength.

The outcome in Georgia, along with several other closely contested states, is expected to play a major role in determining control of the U.S. Senate in 2026.
