U.S. President Donald Trump arrived in Beijing for a closely watched two day summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping, marking the first visit by a U.S. president to China in nearly a decade. The meeting comes at a time of fragile trade relations, rising geopolitical pressure and growing competition in artificial intelligence.
Trump was joined by a group of prominent business leaders, including Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Huang reportedly joined the trip at the last minute as Nvidia continues seeking approval to expand sales of advanced AI chips in China.
US-China Trade and AI Cooperation in Focus
Trade is expected to dominate discussions, with both countries aiming to preserve the tariff truce reached last year. Washington is reportedly pushing for stronger access to Chinese markets, more aircraft purchases and expanded agricultural exports.
China, meanwhile, is expected to seek relief from restrictions on semiconductor technology exports. Alongside trade, the summit is also likely to address the Iran conflict, Taiwan and future cooperation on artificial intelligence.
