Trump Says US-Iran Talks Ongoing, Warns Strikes Could Resume

President Donald Trump said Monday the United States is having “good talks” with Iran and believes a deal is possible, though he warned that military strikes would resume if negotiations fail.

Despite the pause in the US bombing campaign, tensions remained high as Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Iraq reported drone attacks on Monday. Saudi Arabia said it intercepted drones aimed at petroleum targets, launched by Iran-backed groups from Iraq. Iran’s Foreign Ministry maintained it never requested negotiations, though messages continue passing through mediators.

Oil Prices Drop Sharply

US crude fell over 8% following news of the pause, while Brent crude dropped more than 9%. The de-escalation came after military commanders reportedly advised Trump that airstrikes had reached their limits, citing depleted target lists and munitions concerns.

Public Opinion Remains Divided

A recent poll showed Trump’s approval ticking up slightly, though only about one in three Americans support the ongoing conflict. Disputes over control of the Strait of Hormuz remain unresolved between Washington and Tehran.
