Trump Threatens Iranian Power Plants as US Resumes Blockade and Fresh Strikes

The United States has carried out a fourth consecutive night of military strikes against Iran after President Donald Trump reinstated a naval blockade of Iranian shipping, as the fragile ceasefire between the two countries collapsed entirely this week.

Blockade Returns With Fresh Round of Attacks

Trump reimposed the naval blockade on all Iranian ports, with the U.S. military saying strikes were aimed at degrading Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. More than 20 U.S. Navy warships and hundreds of aircraft are currently operating across the Middle East, according to U.S. Central Command. Iran responded by again declaring the strait closed, with its Revolutionary Guards saying it would remain shut until American actions in the region end.

Bahrain and Kuwait Come Under Fire

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they struck U.S. military logistics and command facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait, framing the attacks as retaliation for the ongoing U.S. campaign. Warning sirens sounded in Bahrain, while Kuwait’s air defenses intercepted incoming drones. Iran also claimed a second strike on U.S. facilities at Jordan’s Azraq air base.

Trump Threatens Power Plants and Bridges

In a Fox News interview, Trump said strikes would intensify in the coming days, warning that Iranian power plants and bridges would be targeted next week unless Tehran returns to the negotiating table. The Geneva Conventions bar attacks on infrastructure considered essential to civilians.

Sanctions and Casualties Mount

The U.S. Treasury also issued new sanctions targeting an Iranian shipping network it says has been used to evade existing oil sanctions, bringing the total number of sanctioned individuals and vessels linked to the network past 200. U.S. Central Command said Iranian attacks over the past week killed or injured nearly a dozen crew members across seven commercial ships. The broader conflict, which began with U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, has killed thousands.
