U.S. Government Moves Over $100 Million in Bitcoin and BNB, Sale Not Confirmed

Wallets believed to belong to the U.S. government shifted more than $100 million in digital assets on Tuesday, based on figures from blockchain analytics firm Arkham. Roughly $71.6 million of that was bitcoin, with about $31.6 million in BNB making up the rest. The transfers quickly stirred the usual talk about a possible government sell-off, though nothing so far confirms one.

Bitcoin Sent to Coinbase Prime Deposit Addresses

The government sent 833.599 BTC to two addresses that Arkham has not labeled. Within hours, both passed the coins along to addresses Arkham tags as Coinbase Prime deposit wallets. Of the total, 568.7 BTC came from a wallet tied to forfeited Potapenko/Turogin funds, while 264.9 BTC traced back to coins seized in the Bitfinex hack case.

BNB Transfer Linked to Alameda Research Assets

A separate government-labeled wallet moved around 40,285 BNB, valued at $31.63 million, to an unlabeled address beginning 0x7F68F63fB3A9CCCf352409603421E0A574FbAD90. That wallet then forwarded the entire amount to another unlabeled address, 0x6fB3Fe7b7E78AbB84CE007cBC7412C850B15A579. The BNB originated from assets seized from Alameda Research.

U.S. Government Crypto Holdings and Strategic Bitcoin Reserve

The government still holds about $27.5 billion in crypto, all of it taken through enforcement actions. It has not spent taxpayer money on any new purchases so far.
