US President Donald Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff and Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi are reportedly heading to Switzerland for renewed diplomatic talks aimed at turning a temporary agreement into a long-term peace framework.
The discussions follow a 14-point interim deal intended to reduce regional conflict and move toward a broader settlement covering Iran’s nuclear program and security issues in the Middle East.
According to reports, the negotiations are expected to continue over a proposed 60-day period, involving the United States, Iran, and allied parties working to stabilize the region and secure energy routes such as the Strait of Hormuz.
Israeli Strikes Continue Despite Lebanon Ceasefire Agreement
Even as a ceasefire in Lebanon came into effect between Israel and Hezbollah, fresh Israeli air and drone strikes were reported in southern Lebanon, including the Nabatieh area. Local media said at least five people were killed, while residential buildings were also damaged in overnight attacks.
The ceasefire, which began on Friday afternoon, was seen as a key step required for broader US-Iran negotiations to proceed. However, continued military activity has raised concerns about whether the agreement will hold.
Regional Tensions Affect Global Energy and Diplomacy
The conflict has already disrupted global energy markets, with Brent crude prices falling about 8% during the week as diplomatic efforts showed signs of progress. Before the war, the Strait of Hormuz handled nearly one-fifth of global oil and LNG shipments.
The interim deal reportedly includes sanctions relief for Iran, unfreezing of assets worth tens of billions of dollars, and a potential reconstruction fund estimated at around $300 billion, though full implementation depends on continued negotiations and ceasefire stability.
Officials from Switzerland confirmed they are facilitating the talks, while US and Iranian authorities continue preparations for further diplomatic engagement.
