US and Iran Trade Renewed Attacks as Fragile Ceasefire Collapses

The United States and Iran engaged in their most significant military exchange in weeks, ending a period of relative calm that had lasted since July. US forces conducted a wave of strikes against Revolutionary Guard targets, hitting air defense systems, radar installations, maritime assets and communication facilities. Iran responded by striking American positions in Jordan and Iraq, with reports of additional attacks reaching Bahrain.

Casualties Reported on Both Sides

Jordanian forces said they intercepted the majority of incoming ballistic missiles, while Bahrain reported destroying incoming drones. Iranian forces claimed to have killed several US personnel in northern Iraq, though this has not been officially confirmed. Separately, Iranian officials reported that a wedding gathering near the Strait of Hormuz was struck, killing several civilians, including a child, and wounding dozens more.

Defiant Statements From Both Sides

US leadership described confidence in its current strategic position, while Iranian military officials warned of stronger retaliation against continued hostilities. Iran’s foreign ministry also referenced past civilian casualty incidents from earlier in the conflict, vowing a firm response and criticizing international silence over the escalating violence.

The renewed fighting comes as both nations face mounting economic and military strain after months of sustained conflict.
