American intelligence analysts are examining whether Russia helped Iran target CIA facilities in the Gulf region during recent drone attacks, according to four people familiar with the matter.
Precision of Strikes Raises Questions
Officials say the accuracy of the attacks, combined with Russia’s known technical support for Iran throughout the conflict, has fueled suspicion of Moscow’s involvement. No final conclusions have been reached. At least two CIA sites were hit in March, including a station inside the US embassy in Riyadh and another in eastern Iraq.
Intelligence Memo Points to Russian Assistance
A Western intelligence memo reportedly concluded Russia likely played a role in targeting the facilities. Officials briefed on the matter said the Riyadh strike may have involved Russian enhanced Shahed drones, with one aircraft breaching the embassy wall before a second detonated inside.
Satellite Navigation Support Suspected
Sources say Russia previously supplied Iran with the Kometa M satellite guidance system to improve drone accuracy, a claim the Kremlin has denied.
