US Iran Memorandum of Understanding and Ceasefire Plan

The United States and Iran are reportedly close to finalizing a one page memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the ongoing conflict and initiating fresh nuclear negotiations. The proposed framework includes 14 points and is being developed by US envoy Steve Witkoff and adviser Jared Kushner in coordination with Iranian officials. Washington expects a formal response from Tehran within 48 hours.

Nuclear Program Limits and Sanctions Relief Proposal

The draft plan outlines a 30-day negotiation window following a ceasefire declaration. Key provisions include a proposed 12-year moratorium on uranium enrichment, with potential extensions if violations occur. After this period, Iran would be allowed limited enrichment up to 3.67% for civilian use, alongside commitments to avoid nuclear weapons development and accept enhanced UN inspections, including snap checks.

Strait of Hormuz and Regional Stability Measures

The agreement also addresses reopening the Strait of Hormuz to global shipping and easing sanctions. Iran may remove its stockpile of highly enriched uranium, with discussions including possible transfer abroad. However, failure in talks could lead to renewed military action or restrictions.
