US Moves 9,261 Seized Bitcoin to Coinbase Prime in $770 Million Transfer

The US government has shifted 9,261 Bitcoin, worth about $770 million, to Coinbase Prime over the past two days. The coins come from seizures linked to earlier crypto exploits.

According to Galaxy Research, roughly half of the total was recovered from the Bitfinex hackers, while another portion traces back to known Binance seizures. A further 2,456 BTC came from previously unknown holdings and landed in the government’s seizure address on Coinbase Prime, which may point to new law enforcement seizures.

Will the Seized Bitcoin Be Sold?

Past moves from the government-labeled wallet have fueled talk of possible liquidations. A sale, however, would clash with President Donald Trump’s March 2025 executive order, which said seized Bitcoin should not be sold and should instead become part of the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve.

The US Marshals Service has used Coinbase Prime as its custody provider for seized assets since 2024. In July, the government moved $297 million in Bitcoin and Ether to the same platform. The US Marshals and the Department of Justice have been contacted for comment.
