Core Producer Price Index (PPI) rose 0.4% in May, below the 0.5% forecast and down sharply from the previous 1.0% reading. The softer result suggests underlying inflation pressures may be easing, a development that could support future Federal Reserve rate cuts.

Rate Cut Expectations Remain Focused on September

Meanwhile, headline PPI increased 1.1%, exceeding expectations of 0.7%, although it slowed from the previous 1.4%. The stronger-than expected reading highlights ongoing price pressures in parts of the economy.

The mixed inflation report is unlikely to trigger immediate policy changes. Markets continue to expect the Federal Reserve to keep interest rates unchanged in June and July, while September remains the most closely watched window for a potential rate cut if inflation continues to moderate.
