Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the goal is to cut off every financial lifeline supporting the Iranian regime, describing the effort as an “economic onslaught” aimed at isolating Tehran completely.
Countries Given Clear Deadlines
Bessent said every nation involved in flagged activities has now been given a defined timeline to stop, warning that Treasury, State Department and military teams are actively communicating expectations to global counterparts. He added that President Trump has been personally contacting world leaders, urging them to cut ties with Iran.
Iran Responds With Its Own Warnings
In retaliation, Iran has blacklisted 45 tankers accused of violating its rules for crossing the Strait of Hormuz, threatening fines and possible seizures. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s army chief arrived in Tehran for talks aimed at reviving diplomacy, as shipping traffic through the strait remains sharply reduced compared to pre-war levels.
