Patrick Witt to Attend Judge Advocate General Training

Patrick Witt, who has served as Executive Director of the President’s Council of Advisors for Digital Assets since August, is expected to finish his official duties on July 24 before reporting for Judge Advocate General (JAG) training with the Georgia Army National Guard. The program will qualify him to serve as a legal officer in the Guard.

According to Cody Carbone, CEO of the Digital Chamber, Witt had openly informed industry stakeholders well in advance that he would be taking military leave later this month. His planned absence is expected to last several months.

CLARITY Act Faces Tight Timeline Before Senate Recess

Witt’s leave comes as the Digital Asset Market CLARITY Act reaches a decisive moment in the US Senate. Lawmakers have only a limited window to advance the bill before the Senate begins its August 8 recess, a deadline many in the digital asset industry believe could determine the legislation’s near-term future.

Harry Jung to Oversee Responsibilities During Leave

Throughout the legislative process, Witt has played an important role in negotiations between representatives from the cryptocurrency industry and the banking sector. His work has focused on resolving disagreements over stablecoin yield, as well as addressing ethics provisions included in the market structure bill.

During his absence, Harry Jung, Deputy Director of the President’s Council of Advisors for Digital Assets, is expected to assume Witt’s day-to-day responsibilities. However, sources familiar with the matter say Witt plans to remain involved in the CLARITY Act discussions while completing his military training, ensuring continuity as lawmakers continue debating one of the most significant crypto bills in the United States.
