Zelenskiy Says He Spoke With Trump, Calls For US Resolve To End War

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Saturday he spoke with U.S. President Donald Trump on the Fourth of July holiday, describing the conversation as “very good” and focused on the current situation along the front line. The call comes as the war with Russia, now in its fifth year, continues without a clear end in sight.

Zelenskiy Points to “Real Prospect” for Peace

Zelenskiy said there is now a real chance to end the war and that American resolve would play a crucial role in getting there. He added that he and Trump agreed to continue their discussion at next week’s NATO summit in Turkey, signaling the talks are expected to carry into further high-level meetings.

In his remarks, Zelenskiy expressed gratitude toward the United States for its support throughout the conflict, thanking what he called American hearts who have kept Ukraine’s future and global freedom in mind.

Marking the moment, Kyiv’s Motherland Monument, a 62-meter statue of a female warrior standing near the Dnipro River and one of the city’s most recognized landmarks, was illuminated at night in the colors of the American flag.
