Binance Futures Trading Hits $1.6 Trillion in June Despite Weak Crypto Spot Market
Binance closed out June with $1.6 trillion in futures trading volume, the highest monthly total the exchange has posted so far in 2026. That figure marks an 80% jump from May, when futures activity stood at $893 billion. The rebound stands out because it happened while Bitcoin traded in the mid-$60,000 range and many traders still called the broader market bearish.

Other major exchanges also picked up pace in June, though none matched Binance’s growth. OKX processed $609 billion in futures trades, up 9% from the prior month, while Bybit reached $434 billion, a gain of 18%.
Spot Trading Tells a Different Story
While futures activity climbed, spot markets kept sliding. Centralized exchange spot volume fell to $3 trillion in the second quarter, an 18.9% drop from the first quarter and the slowest quarter in two years. Binance still led the spot market with $731 billion in volume, though its share slipped from 27% to 24%.

Quarterly Futures Volume Still Declining Overall
Looking at the bigger picture, total futures volume across exchanges fell to $15.7 trillion in the second quarter, down 11% from $17.6 trillion in the first quarter. That marked the third straight quarterly decline, though the drop was smaller than the 31% slide seen in the previous quarter. Binance held roughly 28% of the futures market during this period, keeping its position as the largest venue by far.

What Happens After the MiCA Transition
Binance’s June surge arrived just before the deadline for Europe’s Markets in Crypto Assets transition period. The exchange pulled its licensing application in Greece in late June, shortly before the new rules took full effect on July 1. Early figures suggest trading activity has held steady since then, with Binance logging $418 billion in futures volume during the first ten days of July.
