Bitcoin briefly climbed above $67,000 today, with crypto related stocks rallying sharply as optimism grew around US crypto legislation and analysts pointed to signs of capital shifting away from AI-focused trades.

Crypto Stocks Surge on Legislative Progress
Ether approached $1,952 as the broader market rallied. Coinbase shares jumped 12%, American Bitcoin gained 14%, and Cipher Digital climbed 17%. The gains followed comments from Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who said lawmakers were at the one-yard line on the long debated CLARITY Act, legislation that would clarify regulatory authority between the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission over digital assets.

Chipmaker Rally Loses Steam
AI-related stocks have driven much of the speculative momentum in markets over the past year, with the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index surging roughly 110% during that stretch. That rally has recently stalled, however, with the index entering a technical bear market last week after falling more than 20% from its recent peak amid growing concerns over stretched valuations and potential overcapacity in AI infrastructure spending. The shift comes after a prolonged period in which AI enthusiasm, fueled by venture capital investment and retail interest since ChatGPT’s late 2022 launch, drew much of the market’s speculative appetite away from digital assets.
