Canada Sends Federal Help to British Columbia as Wildfires Force Mass Evacuations
Canada's federal government has stepped in to support British Columbia as fast moving wildfires push thousands of residents out of their homes, offering shelter and accommodation for people displaced around the Summerland and Peachland areas. The Bald Range fire, which led the province to declare a state of emergency and evacuate about 18,000 people, had burned through more than 10,300 hectares by Saturday night as crews worked to contain it.

Federal Officials Coordinate Support
Canada’s emergency management minister confirmed she approved a federal assistance request to help house displaced residents, adding that officials at the Government Operations Centre would work directly with the province to get support to those who need it most.
Firefighting Crews Face Tough Conditions
Hot, dry weather kept fires spreading across southern British Columbia over the past day, with smoke and poor visibility complicating both aerial and ground firefighting efforts. Around ten helicopters, including one equipped for night operations, have been hampered by heavy smoke and turbulence. Firefighting teams from Australia, New Zealand, and Mexico are already assisting provincial crews, with more international support expected in the coming days.
