Coinbase is rolling out a new feature this week allowing Coinbase Business users to accept payments made by AI agents, using the exchange’s own x402 protocol.
How the Payment System Works
Businesses using Coinbase Business can now receive payments in USDC directly from AI agents with no additional setup, powered by Coinbase Payments. Sid Coelho Prabhu, head of Coinbase Business, compared the process to a traditional checkout, where an agent creates its own wallet through Coinbase’s developer tools and shops much like a customer would, while merchants make their entire inventory accessible through an agent-friendly checkout flow.

Real-Time Trading Tools for Users
Coinbase is also introducing a live order list that streams an agent’s active trades in real time, showing price, size and status so users can monitor activity as it happens. Users can issue plain-language instructions, such as buying a token after a price dip or selling once an order fills, and the agent will monitor conditions and execute trades automatically.
New SDK for Developers
Coinbase Developer Platform is releasing an x402 SDK that lets developers add payment acceptance to any API, MCP server or web service in just a few lines of code, expanding how the protocol can be integrated into agent-driven applications.
