Coinbase has partnered with financial platform Moov to extend stablecoin infrastructure to more than 1,000 community banks and credit unions across the United States. The collaboration combines Coinbase’s regulated digital asset systems with Moov’s payments platform to offer stablecoin acceptance, settlement and real-time funding capabilities.

New Tools Support Multiple Payment Use Cases

The infrastructure is designed to support consumer stablecoin payments, merchant settlement and business payouts, while also giving businesses and merchants access to Coinbase’s custodial account services. Community banks, generally defined as institutions with less than $10 billion in total assets, represent a significant portion of the US banking sector that has historically had limited access to digital asset infrastructure.

Move Comes Amid Broader Bank Adoption of Stablecoins

The announcement follows a wave of stablecoin activity among larger financial institutions. Just this week, US Bank completed a live cross-border payment using its own proprietary stablecoin, while a group of 21 major banks, including Bank of America, Citi and Goldman Sachs, recently announced plans to jointly launch a dollar-denominated stablecoin by early 2027. Non-bank players are also entering the space, with Western Union partnering with a stablecoin infrastructure provider last month to launch a digital wallet and payment card tied to a dollar backed token.
