Dormant Bitcoin Wallet From 2013 Wakes Up and Moves 411 BTC Worth $34 Million

A bitcoin wallet that sat untouched since 2013 sent all 411.45 BTC to a new address on Sunday, according to Arkham Intelligence data. At around $82,600 per coin, the stash is worth roughly $34 million. The owner received most of those coins on September 11, 2013, when bitcoin traded near $131, and the whole balance was then worth only about $54,000. In the years since, the value climbed more than 600 times.

Long Dormant Bitcoin Wallets Moving This Month

This is not the only old wallet to stir lately. A day earlier, two wallets that had been idle for over a decade moved a combined 417 BTC, and the week before, a large holder inactive since before the March 2020 crash shifted its funds. The pattern resembles 2025, when several long sleeping whales woke up. Moves like these usually spark talk of a coming sale, but most of the coins have landed in new private wallets, which points to custody upkeep rather than a market dump.

Bitcoin Holder Skipped Address Poisoning Scam

Through 13 years of waiting, the owner held through three halvings, the 2017 boom, the 2022 FTX collapse and the 2024 launch of spot bitcoin ETFs. The wallet did collect dozens of tiny deposits worth less than a dollar each, some from addresses Arkham labels as phishing. This is the address poisoning trick, where fraudsters send dust to rich wallets hoping the owner copies the wrong address later. The owner did not fall for it.
