Former Swift CEO Lazaro Campos Joins Stablecoin Yield Firm OpenTrade as Chairman

Lazaro Campos, who once ran the global banking messaging network Swift, has become chairman of London based OpenTrade, a company that helps fintechs, exchanges and digital wallets pay returns on stablecoin balances. The firm announced the move almost six months after raising $17 million. Campos said stablecoins are the next chapter in how money moves, and that yield is what makes them useful for businesses and their customers.

OpenTrade Growth in Assets and Volume

OpenTrade says it has processed more than $1 billion in transactions over the past year and now holds $300 million in total value locked, which measures the assets deposited on its platform. In May, those figures stood at over $200 million locked and $250 million in yearly volume. The company, founded in 2023, lets businesses offer dollar and euro returns backed by real-world assets without building their own investment systems.

Campos Brings Deep Payments Experience

Swift links more than 11,000 financial institutions and moves up to $1.5 quadrillion a year, and its transaction volumes nearly doubled under Campos, according to OpenTrade. He has also served on the Bank of England’s RTGS and CHAPS board and on the board of digital bank Starling, and he currently chairs Payoneer Europe.
