FEC Outage Raises Questions About Crypto PAC Spending Ahead of Midterms

A reported hacking incident has knocked the Federal Election Commission's online filing platform offline just days before the 2026 midterms. The agency confirmed on Tuesday that the outage was continuing, and a news agency report pointed to an attempted breach. An FEC spokesperson said technical staff were working on repairs. Older records can still be viewed, but fresh disclosures may be delayed.

Crypto Super PACs Show No New Spending

Super PACs must report spending of $1,000 or more within 24 hours. Even so, Fairshake, Defend American Jobs, Protect Progress, Fellowship and Digital Freedom Fund listed nothing new since Sunday. Before the outage, the Winklevoss backed Digital Freedom Fund reported over $572,000 on texts supporting Republican Senate candidates, mostly Ken Paxton in Texas. Protect Progress also logged over $50,000 for mailers backing Aisha Wahab in California.

Ohio Senate Race Draws Heavy Crypto Money

In 2024, Fairshake spent about $41 million against Sherrod Brown, who lost to Bernie Moreno. Brown is now running against Jon Husted, and Fairshake had reported $56 million in this race, with Digital Freedom Fund adding over $7 million.
